Weapons Carry License
Weapons Carry License
No appointments are necessary to receive a Georgia Weapons Carry License or to renew an expiring Georgia Weapons Carry License. All applicants must be Thomas County residents. Applications are processed Monday–Thursday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, and Friday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be Thomas County residents and at least 21 years old.
- Residents ages 18–20 with certain military training may apply.
- Probate Court staff cannot advise you on eligibility — see O.C.G.A. § 16-11-126 and § 16-11-129 for details.
Application
- Applications must be submitted online; answer all questions before coming to court.
- Completed applications remain online for up to 30 days — no need to print them.
- Applicants must appear in person at the court to sign the application and consent to a background check.
Renewals
- Renewals are allowed 90 days before expiration until 30 days after expiration.
- The process for renewal is the same as for new applications.
- If the online form doesn’t let you choose “renewal,” proceed as a new application — the clerk can correct it when you bring in your expiring license.
- Renewals do not require fingerprints, but you must bring your old license to court.
- The court will not renew licenses from other states, only those issued in Georgia counties.

- Statutory fee for a new license plus required fingerprints: $77.00
- Statutory fee to renew a license: $30.00
