Weapons Carry License

No appointments are necessary to receive a Georgia Weapons Carry License or to renew an expiring Georgia Weapons Carry License. All applicants must be Thomas County Residents. The applications are processed Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm and Friday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Eligibility

Applicants for a Georgia Weapons Carry License must be Thomas County residents and at least 21 years of age. Residents 18 to 20 years old with certain military training may apply. See O.C.G.A. §16-11-129 for details.

Application

Georgia Weapons Carry License Applications must be submitted online. Applicants should answer all questions online before coming to the court. Completed applications remain stored online for up to 30 days. You do not need to print your application to bring to the court.

Applicants must appear in person to complete their application. At the court, applicants will sign their application before a clerk as well as consent to a background check.

Renewal of your Georgia Weapons Carry License

An applicant may renew his or her Georgia Weapons Carry License from 90 days prior to expiration until 30 days after expiration. The application process is the same whether the license is new or a renewal. (Note that the online application may not allow you to choose renewal, but the clerk at the court can correct this when you present your expiring license so proceed with the online application as “new.”) Renewals do not require fingerprint checks, but applicants must bring their old license to the court when renewing or they will not be allowed to renew, but must follow procedures for a new license.

This court does not renew any sort of gun license from any other state, but will renew license issued by other counties within in the State of Georgia.

  • The statutory fee for a Georgia Weapons Carry License and required fingerprints is $77.00 O.C.G.A. §16-11-129.
  • The statutory fee to renew a Georgia Weapons Carry License is $30.00. O.C.G.A. §16-11-129.
  • The statutory fee for a temporary renewal license is $1.00. O.C.G.A. §16-22-129.
