Marriage Licenses & Records
Both parties must be present, together and in person, at Thomas County Probate Court to sign the application.
Eligibility
Applicants for a marriage license must be 18 years of age. If either is age 17, there are additional requirements pursuant to O.C.G.A. 19-3-36. Applicants under 17 years of age are not eligible for a marriage license in Georgia.
Application
Marriage License Applications must be submitted online. Applicants should answer all questions online before coming to the court. Completed applications remain stored online for up to 30 days. You do not need to print your application to bring to the court.
Both applicants must visit the court together to receive their license.

License Requirements
Identification - Each applicant must present a government issued photo identification card showing their birth date. Examples include a valid driver’s license or passport.
Prior Marriages - Each applicant who has had a prior marriage must provide, at the time of application, proof of the dissolution of that marriage. The court will need a copy of this document to keep on record. Examples include a Final Judgement or Decree of Divorce signed by a Judge of Superior Court with a file stamp showing it is on the docket, death certificate for former spouse. Note: if any of these documents is not in English, a certified translation is required.
Fees & Costs
The cost for a marriage certificate is $76.00 unless premarital counseling is completed which makes the certificate $36.00.
You may qualify for a waiver of the application fee if you attend a qualifying premarital education program which entails a minimum of 6 hours of counseling pursuant to O.C.G.A. 19-3-30.1, O.C.G.A. 15-9-60, and O.C.G.A. 15-9-60.1.
You must present a Certification of Qualifying Premarital Education Program at the time of application in order to receive the waiver. This exact form is required and must be complete with original signatures and a proper notary. Copies, scans, images on an electronic device, or any other version of the form will not be accepted for the waiver.
