Thomas County Emergency Services Director Appointed

Thomasville, Georgia, 12 November 2019 - County Manager Mike Stephenson announces the appointment of Derrick C. Ogletree as Emergency Services Director effective 12 November 2019. Ogletree was hired by Thomas County on 14 October 1986 as an Emergency Medical Technician. Ogletree was promoted to Captain on 7 November 1996 and then to Co-Director on 1 January 2008. Ogletree was appointed GIS Manager on 1 August 2010 and developed the County’s first fully integrated geographic information system. His job title was changed to Information Systems Manager in 2017 when “911 Addressing” was added to his job duties. Ogletree is a graduate of Thomas County Central High School and Valdosta Technical College.

The Emergency Services Director will be the department manager for the Emergency Medical Service and the Fire Department. “The blending of missions between the Emergency Medical Service and the Fire Department requires a high degree of planning and coordination; Derrick Ogletree has all the knowledge, skills and ability necessary to bring it about”, noted County Manager Mike Stephenson. “We expect to move forward patiently but deliberately with Derrick’s leadership”, the County Manger added.

Chris Jones will continue in his position as Assistant Director – Fire Operations and Emergency Management Director. Tim Coram will continue in his position as Assistant Director – EMS Operations. Martin Smith, James Mann, and Robbie Hopkins will remain in their positions as Team Commanders. Bryant Ring, Lavon Gassett, and Clint Chastain will remain in their positions as Team Captains.
